True or False: Jesus was a socialist ?

If he existed, which I doubt, could he be seen as a socialist ?True or False: Jesus was a socialist ?
I think the answer will vary from person to person. People tend to view Jesus through the lens of their own political ideology.

They do it with the Founding Fathers too.

Once again, I find myself agreeing with Ethan.True or False: Jesus was a socialist ?
False. Socialism says that everything belongs to the states and everyone must act according to the best interest of the state, even to the point where individuals lose their civil liberties.

That is not what Christ was about. I mean, wasn't it Christ who said that the last will be first and the first will be last?

Edit : Dictionary definition of socialism ';Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy.';

Fascism and Communism are both forms of socialism.
lol

Ok, this is why I ';loled';.

Jesus would have people be kind to one another, not placing so much importance on wealth in the sense of hoarding it. Since people tend to ';take the ball and run with it,'; they tend to think that Jesus was preaching socialism. That would be great propaganda for those preaching socialism who wanted some Christians in their ranks, but I do not think that is what Jesus was preaching. Because in socialism the government hoards all the wealth, as I understand it, and as I think could be demonstrated..

So no, I do not think Jesus was a socialist. He was preaching a kingdom. So if this helps, I think he was preaching a for of theocracy mixed with a monarchy. God has always claimed the right to rule over His children, and has even in the Old Testament, referred to Himself as a King.
His followers were socialists. The apostle Peter used the authority of God to strike *dead* a married couple in his church because they refused to share all the wealth they had gotten from the sale of some of their property.

';But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back [part] of the price of the land?...And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. '; (Acts 5)
Yes, socialism works if, and only if, the powerful are selfless. The problem is power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. When the powerful force their self interest over the the interest of common man then socialism breaks down. Actually, when that happens any government system breaks down. It happened in Rome, Russia in WWI Russia again after the cold war, Germany when Hitler came to power, France, US during colonialism, etc.Guess what is happening in the US, government full of self interest.

Christ called for a form of socialism, but a socialism based on the reality that man is inept to provide, and only God can.
As socialist as everything else these days that's called socialist. He did say it would be easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than a rich man enter heaven, and that doesn't sound too capitalist to me.
Not a *full* socialist, but he certainly wasn't a capitalist.

At the least he was a liberal.
Jesus never existed, it is an identical story to Mithra, which is c1000 years older.

Christianity is Mithra Christos wearing a new name.

Practicing Shaman... quantum physics rocks
Jesus is the Messiah. ';Socialist'; didn't exist then.
Probably not socialist. But he was definitely liberal.
When you see him face to face as you will express your doubt then.

Jesus can be described in only one way son of God. He died so we might live. Any other description is meaningless.
Not in any contemporary use of the term.
False. Jesus was a realist.
