Do you think that Christians are true followers of Jesus?

Do you think that today's Christians are true followers of Jesus. Do they practise what Jesus taught? Do they aim to be like him. Or are they all just too caught up in accepting him as their saviour to be bothered about what they do in their actual lives?

Looking for a wide variety of response here from Christians, Atheists, Jews, Wiccans, whatever.Do you think that Christians are true followers of Jesus?
My experience of christians is that they are more caught up with the whole being saved and simply believing (in whatever) and going to church and doing the whole ';christian lifestyle thing';, than they are about actually going out and doing some charity work.

Not to say they are all like that mind you ... but I think there is a large group of people who call themselves christian, but do so only from a social-club aspect and for selfish reasons like feeling the joy or whatever it is they get out of believing, than because they have a deep seated need to be altruistic.

Heck, I attend some of the local churches on occasion to organise charity and recruit volunteer help for other events and you want to see the faces pulled when you are asking them to give some of their time to something useful instead of sitting in a building chanting in their group solidarity exercises. It's disgusting, to put it mildly, to have a group of a couple hundred people (mostly middle aged and well-to-do) who claim to be moral, kind and all that jazz, sit complaining like old-wifey's gossiping amongst themselves and looking down their noses at me (who I'll add, is not a part of any congregation, church or religion) asking them to give others some of their time.Do you think that Christians are true followers of Jesus?
There are so many Christians today that call themselves ';Christian'; because they accept that Jesus exists. However, that alone does not make them a true Christian. Many people fail to live like a true Christian. If one believes that Jesus is their saviour, they will act like him in their every day lives. I know many people who strive everyday to act like Jesus and be a Christian who truly does live for God. However, everyone has their own vices and weakness and no one is perfect. All anyone can do is try, and that is good enough.
Everyone is going to believe what their own faith (or lack thereof) believes.

Like I, as a Catholic,

believe (from historical and theological reasons) that the Catholics are the true faith that Jesus established. That other denominations broke away and by doing so lost some of the truth. All of them are attempting to be good Christians, but only are partially correct.

When a congregation gets together and votes on what the bible says on certain moral items, that's a problem (I know not all of them do, but I do know some of them have - I've seen it)

When a congregation splits and breaks over whether or not you baptize by immersion or sprinkling.

etc..
I listen in amazement of how the Christian Church had embodied the best of Western civilization and how it had brought peace and understanding to the people it touched.

The Church, throughout much of its history, has demonstrated

a disregard for human freedom, dignity, and self-determination.

It has attempted to control, contain and confine

spirituality, the relationship between an individual and God. As

a result, Christianity today has helped to create a society in which

people are alienated not only from each other but also from what they call divine.
most christians follow what jesus and the father taught and said

some claim to but have ignored all of jesus message and pin point on one small segment

the same jesus that said love your neighbor also said go and preach the gospel.

Mar 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Mar 16:16 He that believes and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believes not shall be damned.

they try and follow the love part but they twist that into saying you approve of a persons sin when you love them. Which of course jesus never did. he never approved of or upheld any one who was living in sin. they ignore the comments jesus said when he told people go and sin no more.

All of what jesus said is to be followed not just bits and pieces
SOME Christians are... we are to ';be filled with the Holy Spirit';. Not just ';follow Him'; or have a religion.

A person who has Christ within- what would the world see then?

Many many who sit in the pews on Sunday only have a religion, and they think it's good enough. But they have not been born again. ';Having an outward appearance of godliness, but denying the power thereof';

2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

2Ti 3:6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

2Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Some of the teen christians i know are what you would call true christians and some are not. There are some out there that are all about there church and following what they beleve to be right acourding to what they have learned through there religion. But on the other had theres some out there that say they are religous and follow jesus christ but they dont make there religion a very important part of there life. Then theres teens that dont beleve in jeses christ, some that dont know, some that dont care, and some that knows there is no jesus. The main thing to remember here is Knowing something and beleving something are two completely different things. Letme give you the best example i can using my personal experiance if thats ok. I beleve there was a person named jesus christ that died for our sins, I beleve there is a heaven and a hell, i beleve there is a god and he gives everyone a chance to be with him eternaly... but i cant say i know there is a god or that jesus was a real person cause the truth is we dont know and i think that is a big problem with younger people these days. They dont underand what it meens to beleve in something. Trying to teach a child to know something with no proof of it is not only unfair to that child its unfair you christianity. Christianity is build on faith, having faith in god. And when it comes to faith there are never any garrentees... Also in my opinion this is not a good question for anyone thats not a christian because why woud people know what it meens to be a christian unless they where one?
Peace be unto you,

Actually they are Muslims who follow Jesus more than Christians %26amp; Christians NO CHANCE for them to follow Jesus until their paganism church exist. Because church teaches against the teachings of Jesus %26amp; accept the teaching of St. Paul who never ever met Jesus in his whole life.

The best example I can give is that Jesus used to greet people with Peace %26amp; Muslims also greet people with Peace %26amp; the best example is me (myself) that I greeted you with peace in my answer above. The biggest issue of Christians is SALVATION. Let see what Jesus %26amp; Paul taught about Salvation.

According to Jesus: The rich young ruler asked Jesus how he could find salvation. Jesus answered, ';Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments ... If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.'; (Matt 19:16-21, Mark 10:17-21, Luke 18:18-22, KJV) In other words, obey Torah, and follow Jesus' examples.

According to Paul: “That if you confess with your mouth Jesus {as} Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.” (Rom 10:9-10, NAS)

Which is it? Obeying the commandments of G-d and following Jesus, or merely believing in Jesus’ resurrection and confessing him as Lord?

Thanks,

Hope I answered!
First, it isn't my task to judge another person.

However, I would say that there are those who claim to be Christians who are not doing a very good job of following. I also think there are those who are.

One of the big problems in this is that everyone has their own perspective of what Jesus was like. Until we are uniform then there can be no standardized answers.
I'll just say THIS about that....

It isn't about BEING it is about BECOMING.....

In the end, when all is said %26amp; done - will we want to be the person we've BECOME? Will His imagine be in our countenance because of who we have become in this life through our acts, our deeds, our christlike humanity %26amp; character.... it's all about becoming not being anything in my opinion. ';By their fruits ye shall know them'; right?

Well a tree is a living growing thing. It grows, matures and produces over TIME, nurturing and pruning - just as life does for us. We become a TRUE disciple of Christ throughout the course and paths we lay in our life time....

';Have you received His imagine in your countenace? Does the light of Christ shine in your eyes. Will He know you when He comes again, because you will be like Him - when He sees you will the Father know His child, by His everlasting image, in your eyes.....'; THIS is what I believe makes a TRUE follower %26amp; disciple of Christ.
Jesus was Jewish. He did not worship himself. If he had claimed to be the son of God in his time he would have been stoned to death for blasphemy. Christians don't know or understand this. If you really want to honor Jesus you should become a law-abiding Jew just like Jesus was (supposedly). Jesus was not declared to be God officially until 325 A.D. at the Council of Nicea. If he was actually God why did it take a committee and 325 years for people to figure that out? What most Christians follow today are actually the teachings of Paul, not Jesus.

Btw: I am not Jewish.
I aim to be like Him. But I fail miserably. But I keep trying. That's the key point in my opinion: trying. I think the hypocrites are those who say they are something (whether Christian or not) but don't even try.

Of course, Yoda would say, ';Do or do not. There is no try.'; So I guess I'm out of luck if I go by that philosophy. I think I'll stick with mine...
i believe that Jehovah's Witnesses follow the pattern of Christ and live by his teachings. they preach his news of the kingdom. they love their fellow believers and their enemies. they commemorate his death every year. they are not perfect but come close as humanly possible
No they are true followers of Saul of Tarsus, the antichrist. Convert by any means, including lying, making it up as they go along. murder, torture, etc.

Practicing shaman... quantum physics rocks.
Some are, Some are not..

Matthew 7.21 NIV

';Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.';
they suit what they wish, e.g. they consume pork eventhough it forbidden, not circumcise, not fasting, they changed jesus' monotheism teaching....
You almost answered your own question but I would suggest that some Christians are true followers and some others are just hypocrites.
I'm sure there are those who mean well and treat people ok. Like in all groups you're bound to get your undesirables unfortunately that make it look bad for the rest of them.
No; whether they know it or not, they're effectively followers of Paul for the most part.
I think they're followers of Chris.
No they just pick out the parts that suits them %26amp; ignore what he was trying to tell them in the first place
I cannot put all Christians in on box and say yes or no.

Some do, some don't.

Have a good one!!

Cinn =)
Some are, some are just for show.
As an *individual* I can only answer this way : I see a LOT of people doing *good*, now rather they are *Christian* I can not exactly say, I am the type that does NOT ask, *are you Christian?*, etc.,.... Who cares when the chips are down, IF that person that is holding you or helping you is a Christian or not ? As long as there are PEOPLE around to help.. I help as much and when I can, but I do NOT go around telling people *what* I am, that is NOT the point of BEING a Christian..... But, I would have to say, that a majority of Christians do their *good deeds* in life.... the problem is, people assume we have to advertise the fact of what , who, where and when, it is NOT part of being a Christian to announce to the world what we do... You are comparing us to a being that had above human nature qualities, and to be frank about it, you are being a tad unfair to assume we can achieve what He did.... All the things you list, loving our neighbors, treating others with respect, renouncing material gan, etc., are things most do not achieve but STRIVE for, we are in a race, NOT a perfectly set up world for Christians.... Get it ???????? and I will point out this last little bit of information : We don't have to worry about how non believers measure us... not being ugly or disrespectful, but that is just the plane ole truth of the matter.... Rather we do one good deed, respect very few, or love just one neighbor, is between us and God... But, I think that MOST people, as I am driving at, have notions of just what a Christian is SUPPOSED to do, when in fact, they know very little ..... So, having said all that..... I leave you with respect.... go in peace..... God bless
Muslims and Christians agree that Jesus was born of a virgin, that he performed mighty miracles, and that he is now alive. We believe that he was the Messiah, a prophet of God, and his righteous Servant. But we also disagree on some things ( The main thing is his divinity ). Can a historical study help us to decide who has the true account of Jesus? I believe so.

Christians believe that Jesus was the divine Son of God, that he is the second person of the Holy Trinity, and that he is our personal savior who died for the sins of the world. On these points Christianity diverges from Islam. Therefore ( as a muslim ) I think that on these points Christianity also diverges from the true historical Jesus.

Ok, I will start with the divinity of Jesus: All the followers of Jesus all seemed pretty convinced that Jesus was fully God in human form. Did Jesus ever claim to be God? Jesus was not god according to bible and he never said ';I'm God'; or ';I'm son of God'; or something like this in the bible.

According to bible: “God is not a man...nor a son of man…” Numbers 23:19

Jesus can not be God if God is greater than him !!! John 14:28 “My Father is greater than I.” ... John 10:29 “My father is greater than all.” ...The Christian belief that the Father and son are equal is in direct contrast to the clear words from Jesus.

Jesus prayed to God all night !!! : Luke 6:12 “he continued all night in prayer to God.”

The Bible says that Jesus could not Do Anything by Himself: John 5:19 “The son can do nothing by himself; he can only do what he sees his Father doing.” ... John 5:30 “I can of mine own self do nothing.” So Jesus did not consider himself equal with God, rather he denied doing anything by himself ... if Christ was God, the Bible would simply say that Jesus did the miracles himself without making reference to God. The fact that it was God supplying the power for the miracles shows that God is greater than Jesus

Now, read this : Mark 5:30 “At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, ‘Who touched my clothes?’” ... Mark 6:5 “He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them.” ... Quite obviously, someone with such limitations can not be God. The power of miracles was not within Jesus.

Bible says that Jesus grew in wisdom %26amp; learning, but God is All Wise %26amp; does not (need to) learn according to bible itself: Psalms 147:5 “Great is our Lord and abundant in strength; His understanding is infinite.” ... however : Luke 2:52: “And Jesus increased in wisdom.” ... God does not need to learn, but Jesus learned !!!

Bible says that Jesus’ powers were given to him: Matt 28:18 “All power is given unto me.” ... God is all-powerful, no one gives God His powers, otherwise He would not be God because He would be weak.

In Mark ( 11 ) we have: ';';';Jesus entered Jerusalem and came into the temple; and after looking around at everything, He left for Bethany with the twelve, since it was already late.12 On the next day, when they had left Bethany, He became hungry. 13 Seeing at a distance a fig tree in leaf, He went to see if perhaps He would find anything on it; and when He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs';';'; … Why didn't Jesus ( who has the divine nature and who is the all-knowing ) know that it was not the season for figs ? and why he didn't know that the tree had no fig ? doesn't that mean that he is not the all knowing ? so he was never GOD or even had never the divine nature ?

He meant that clearly when he said : “Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone.” (Mark 10:18).

Therefore again, Jesus could not be God.

I will continue to the second point: Is Jesus our savior ?

(Deuteronomy 24:16): ';The father shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.';

(Jeremiah 31:30): ';But every one shall die for own iniquity...';

(Ezekiel 18:20): ';The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.';

So Adam and Eve were responsible for only their own sins !!!

Even in the New Testament:

(I Corinthians 3:8): ';Now he that planteth and he that waterth are one; and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour';

(Matthew 7:1,2): ';Judge not, that ye be not Judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again';

Everyone is responsible for his own sins ! Jesus will save none !!!
People at my church do.

I try, fall way short but I'm trying harder each day. The loving those who do evil to you is the hard part...have this temper see....ugh.

In The Name Of Allah The Most Gracious The Most Merciful

Jesus peace and blessings be upon him is one of the greatest prophets sent by Allah the Almighty, and yes christains do not follow the true teachings of Jesus(pbuh), Jesus is claimed to say when he was asked what is the greatest commandment, he answered that you worship God and God alone, now I don't think christains do that today instead they beleive that Jesus(pbuh) is God, and the son of God. I want to ask did Jesus(pbuh) worship himself? Did prophets before like, Moses, Abraham, Solomon, Noah, and so on, did they worship Jesus?

People should turn to Prophet Mohamed (pbuh) for salvation and understand that Jesus himself talked about the coming of Prophet Mohamed (pbuh),

Jesus said:

';I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.'; John 16:12

';But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.'; John 16:13

Christains claim that this is the Holy spirit, while muslims beleive that it is Mohamed peace and blessings be upon him,

I will explain how this can't be the Holy spirit by using the trinity, and also show how Jesus (pbuh) isn't God, which will then confirm that these christains are not following the teachings of Jesus.

Let me start talking about what spirit really means from the bible:

-';Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.'; John 4:1

';This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God'; John 4:2

';but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.'; John 4:3

Now Jesus (pbuh) said that the anti-christ was already in the world so Prophet Mohamed (pbuh) could of not have been the anti-christ because he wasn't even born yet.

Jesus (pbuh) said test the spirit because many false PROPHETS have been sent out into the world, so a false spirit is a false PROPHET and a true spirit is a ture PROPHET, Jesus (pbuh) said in order to know who this prophet is test him and see if he says that I have come, and beleives that I am the christ, let me give you a quote from the Holy Quran and you can see for yourself that Mohamed (pbuh) did beleive that Jesus (pbuh) came in the flesh and that he is the christ:

The Qur'an speaks of Mary (called Miriam in Arabic) not only as the mother of Jesus, but as a righteous woman in her own right. There is even a chapter of the Qur'an named for her (the 19th chapter of the Qur'an). Below are some direct quotations from the Qur'an regarding Mary.

';Relate in the Book (the story of) Mary, when she withdrew from her family to a place in the East. She placed a screen (to screen herself) from them. Then We sent her our angel, and he appeared before her as a man in all respects. She said, 'I seek refuge from you to God Most Gracious! Do not come near me, if you fear God!' He said, 'No, I am only a messenger from your Lord, (to announce) to you the gift of a holy son.' She said, 'How shall I have a son, seeing that no man has touched me, and I am not unchaste?' He said, 'So (it will be). Your Lord says, 'That is easy for Me, and (We wish) to appoint him as a Sign unto men, and a Mercy from Us. It is a matter (so) decreed''; (19:16-21, the Chapter of Mary)

';Behold! The angels said, 'Oh Mary! God has chosen you and purified you, chosen you above the women of all nations. Oh Mary! Worship your Lord devoutly. Prostrate yourself, and bow down (in prayer) with those who bow down''; (3:42-43).

';And (remember) she who guarded her chastity. We breathed into her of Our spirit, and We made her and her son a sign for all peoples (21:91).

[While describing people who were good examples for others] ';...And Mary, the daughter of 'Imran, who guarded her chastity. And We breathed into (her body) of Our spirit. She testified to the truth of the words of her Lord and of His Revelations, and was one of the devout (servants)'; (66:12).

';Christ, the son of Mary, was no more than a messenger; many were the messengers that passed away before him. His mother was a woman of truth. They had both to eat their (daily) food. See how God makes His signs clear to them; yet see in what ways they are deluded away from the truth!'; (5:75).

In the last verse above Allah The Almighty mentions that both Jesus and Mary peace be upon them both ate food, now why would Allah waste a verse in the Holy Quran to point out that they both ate food?, now we both know what happens to the food that the body doesn't need. Can you imagine God Urinating and Defecating?

You will also see that what Prophet Mohamed (pbuh) came with is a true revelation from god because there was no way that he could of explained the story in such detail.

Before Jesus left his companions he said:

';I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.'; John 16:12

';But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.'; John 16:13

I know I have already explained this verse but I will now explain John 16:12, and show you how this spirit is not the Holy Spirit:

Jesus (pbuh) said that he has MANY things to teach his companions but at this point there minds cannot handle what he has to tell them so he said when this spirit of truth comes he will teach you things that I have not yet taught you, so my question is if the spirit is the Holy Spirit, I ask christains to point out one thing that this Holy Spirit has come to teach you that Jesus (pbuh) did not, because Jesus (pbuh) said this spirit that will come will teach you everything. There has not yet been a christain on the face of this earth that has answered that question. Prophet Mohamed (pbuh) taught us everything:

from how to pray to how to sit on a toilet.

***In conclusion

Muhammad (peace and blessings be on him), as well as all other prophets, was a model for all humans in all walks of life. Only a human who is like all other humans can serve as a model for other humans. That is why most Christians who imagine Jesus to be God cannot emulate his life as perceived by the Christians. For instance, Jesus is reported to have fasted forty days and forty nights continuously. Can this form of fasting be an example for others to follow? It is important to note that the fasting of Muhammad is being followed by millions of his followers until today. Jesus (pbuh) is not followed the correct way.
