What was the true meaning when jesus talked about being reborn?

In John 3 Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews was talking with Jesus. I'm not going to quote all of it you'll have to read it yourself. Jesus is talking about being reborn. In 3:4 Nicodemus asks How can a man be born when he is old? 3:5 ';Jesus answered Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water, and of the spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God.

My question is- could Jesus have not been talking about baptism but reincarnation. When we die we become basically a spirit. The flesh has ceased living. When we are born what happens. A women's water breaks and we are born of water. So we come back into another body through spirit and are then born out of water.

Wouldn't reincarnation make more sense that the true God would know that his creations would most likely not be able to attain what he seeks for them to attain Heaven by giving them more than one life. Better than one chance and if you mess up eternal damnation don't you think.

A side note on any who will condemn this thought. The righteous shall inherit the earth. To me that means you stay here and don't go to heaven. Be careful on how righteous you are. What was the true meaning when jesus talked about being reborn?
it is popular in christiandom to believe that born again is believing in Jesus. however, Jesus was speaking of a re-birth of the spirit, to become a new creature. christians believe in Jesus for their salvation which is good, but Jesus wasn't talking about that to nicodemus. being born of the spirit is a whole-nother thing. Also, the kingdom of God isn't the heaven to come, it is the kingdom of God here and now. What was the true meaning when jesus talked about being reborn?
David G is exactly right... Anyone who has been born of woman has already been born again. Being born again (of woman) is what must occur in order to be '; eligible for a chance at salvation. Christ saying such a thing is probably a warning to those in heaven who refuse to be born of woman. As per the gospel of the book of Jude.
I was studying this just today and when you are baptized your reborn with water and when you receive the holy spirit your born again in the spirit . Jesus was born again at his baptism and it happened almost simultaneously.
Christianity is the belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.
No such thing as 'reincarnation' in the first place. (It is when 'you' finally come face to face with your sins and realize 'you' are 'bankrupt' without Him and with a sincere/convicted heart, invite Him in!) It is Spiritual Intervention from The Holy Spirit of Whom is also God!! %26lt;')))%26gt;%26lt;
Jesus was speaking of a spiritual birth and use the analogy of a wind and the Holy Spirit. This has absolutely nothing to do with reincarnation. Jesus said exactly what He meant to say for those He wanted to convey the understanding to.
The Bible says it is ordained that each man die ONCE, and then comes judgment. That pretty well eliminates any possibility of reincarnation, not to mention the absurdity of the idea itself.
When you are born ,you are born in sin which is death to BE born again is asking God for forgiveness and living for him for the rest of your life.
No, I think it is also in the bible that we are just given one life and then judgement. So as far as I know, we have only one lifetime to learn to love God.
Being reborn means that one has found Christ.

That the actions of one's life are no longer dictated by the will to appease themselves but rather by the will to appease our lord and creator.

Vaya con D铆os.
I don't think so! Sorry
that he was a zombie and would want to eat brains
do u mean being born again, as in asking Jesus to save us from our sins
Hey there,

Do you study Buddism? Sounds like you are going at it with the angle of the circle of life? or reincarnation?

Edit

I agree that the bible tells us that we will live on the earth, as that was the original purpose Ps 37:11,29; Matt 5:5

However there is a small group of people invited to rule with Christ in heaven. These ones are '; born again'; but its a process. They were chosen for a purpose. Its a two fold process 1) one needs to repent, and turn around from their former course and then sympolize it with WATER baptism

2) then ';if'; God chooses them, they will be filled will holy SPIRIT.

This does not mean their salvation is guaranteed. (Matt. 10:22; 24:13)

this only means they were chosen by God to be a part of the new covenant of ';spiritual Jews'; in heaven to accomplish Gods will for the ';earth';...if they remained faithful til death.

They will then be remade into a spiritual being. ( one must remember that humans were never supose to go to heaven since flesh and blood cannot enter into heaven, so this process is only to accomplish Gods will for mankind and the earth.)

This ';little flock'; (luke 12:32) that goes to heaven will help judge the resurrected on earth in Christs 1000 year reign.

EDIT

Yes, the literal translation for John 3:3 is '; born from above'; What this means is that the new birth originates ';from above'; or ';from the father'; ( Joh 19:11) It is caused by God.

So an individual CANNOT cause his own new birth. Just like we did not cause our own physical birth we were begotten by our father.

Similarily we can experience the new birth only if God our heavenly father causes our new birth.

##David G##

Note: Jesus first got baptized with water. Then he recieved the holy spirit. Similarily the earthly disciples were first baptized with water then recieved the holy spirit. Like wise 3000 converts were first baptized with water then they recieved the holy spirit.

This is what is meant by John 3:5 '; baptized with water and spirit';
This is a very interesting statement, and in most King James Bibles the margin reads ';again'; as being ';from above';. In Strong's Greek dictionary, # 509, the word is ';Anothen';, ';from above';. You will never understand this statement that Jesus made unless you understand what it means to be ';born from above.'; In a later verse, it is documented that you must be ';born from above';, or your soul will be lost for eternity.

The church world has their sayings and songs that ';Ye must be born again';, and yet these verses they sin miss the mark, because they do not understand what it means to be ';born from above'; [born again]. This is part of God's plan that everyone [every soul] be born of woman, from above. For documentation we find in the Book of Jude whereby the penalty of the fallen angels is given, in as much as they left their place of habitation. Angels are to inhabit heaven, or paradise at this time, in the flesh age.

';Verily, verily'; is ';truly, truly';. Jesus is telling him that there must be two births necessary; the birth of the water and of the spirit. Many people teach that this ';born of the water';, means to be baptized, and this is not what is being talked about. To be born from above is to be born of the womb of your mother. Every child is born in a bag of water, in fact the normal birth is announced by the breaking of the waters with in the birthing bag. So we see in this that one must be born of woman, in innocence, and then ';be born of the spirit';.

Born of the spirit means to accept the Spirit of Christ. That soul choosing by free will the Spirit of Christ into their spirit. That is what the marriage of Christ is all about; to become one in Christ.

This is why most people simply do not know what being ';born from above means';, when they disregard what happened in the book of Genesis, and in that first earth age. They overlook all of Satan's attempts to destroy the womb of woman, and God's plan to send us His Son that we might have redemption. God intervened in Satan attempt, as He always will do. This is why the book of Jude is so important.
Where in the bible did you read that Jesus gives us one chance only? On the contrary, we are given a new chance every day. With that fact in mind, doesn't reincarnation seem a little ridiculous? If we are given chance after chance, the ability to repent after sin constantly, then why would we need to be reincarnated? Sure, if we were only given one chance reincarnation might be a nice break for some, but that idea is not founded in the bible anywhere. What you are talking about sounds a little like the Caste system of India.
We are not reborn! Sorry We are not full, we were so to speak birth to this flesh from the left side of the Spirit. Job....The Spirit of G-D made me but the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

We have one G-D and we are made in that image. Man. The Spirit of G-D made us from the left, and when we are brought forth we are brought forth on the right side. We then are made in the full image of G-D. I try-ed to make it simple, I hope you understand it, I could go so deeply in this.

In Ps.2 we find David being brought forth, and G-D declares it a decree. Now this is big---it is declare a law---law is not just for one, for in G-D is unity, we are to walk together. We are all to be brought forth.

This action is ....not what mankind do......no, no, it is lighting your hearts and minds with the burning desire that is in G-D'S heart for you. You could say the fire of heaven must be given you. Putting sin out lets G-D in ......the door is opened, you then begin. There is no end to the journey you will be on. You will never know all, forever learning for G-D name is Eternal. Psalm 101:1-8 the number eight of G-D is completeness.
When he said that we have to be born again, he meant that we have to believe in Jesus Christ as our Savior, and the part of being born of water, he meant being baptized. When we first believe we are born of the spirit. And the part about the Kingdom of God, this has to do with ruling and reigning with Christ 1000 years here on earth before he burns up the earth. This does not have anything to do with Heaven. People that have been saved but maybe not baptized and die, they will still go to Heaven but they cannot be in this last 1000 year kingdom. Like the thief on the cross, he got saved but he didn't get baptized, so he went to heaven and he will not rule and reign with Christ here on earth for the last 1000 years cause he was not baptized nor did he have any rewards. Meaning he had no righteous works.
Well Nicodemus asked about being reborn, as in he said to Jesus if he is to go back into his mother's womb, but Jesus said to basically, believe in Him, and he shall be reborn, and of course be baptized. Inheriting the Earth, is speaking of the New Earth that will be created by God, after the end of the world, this world. Reincarnation isn't accepted in Christianity because we know that when we die we go to Heaven where we are judged by God, and then He sends us into Heaven, or into Hell. Thus explains the saying of ';You only go around the track once';, the track being life. And God tells us that we will be either in Heaven, or in Hell, not reborn, the reborn Jesus was talking about, was the being a born again Christian, accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
