Do you consider yourself a true believer in Jesus?

Mark 16:15-18

15He said to them, ';Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. 16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.';

Jesus said his believers will be baptized and speak in tongues! Do you speak in tongues?? If not, maybe you should repent and ask God for the wonderful gift of the Holy Ghost....Do you consider yourself a true believer in Jesus?
Yes!Amen to Acts 2:38!Do you consider yourself a true believer in Jesus?
DAVID, you are confusing the 'gift of the Holy Ghost'[as in 'water and spirit rebirth'] with the GIFT OF TONGUES as spoken of in the book of corinthians with the other gifts of the spirit-[it says for the edification of the believers]

The GIFT OF THE HOLY GHOST as given on the day of pentecost is not optional,it is part of the 'water and spirit' rebirth, it is personal.

Start at the beginning of the Book of Acts ans see how the churches of Jesus were established
I try to make it simpler since most human like to make it complicated.

Soul is love

soul is strength

soul is eternal.

if one is connect to their soul they have the answer then need.

if you read the bible Jesus also say that you should follow the living word.

That the written word is not the living word.
Do not believe the answer david put. You absolutely have to be baptized in order to enter his kingdom. It's all over the new test. Man baptizes u with water, but god baptizes u with fire (Holy Ghost)
answer: He also said to prayer quietly in a closet away from others.

No, I'm not and Paul inserting words into the mouth of Jesus to become salesmen was great growth assurance.
Nope, I'm quite the opposite actually.
I guess so, some spanish and a little german.
:-) Preach!! Oh Come On Now.
Yes
Amen. I was baptized on August 26, and two months later I received the baptism in the Holy Spirit with the Evidence of speaking in tongues. How anyone can read the book of Acts and reach any other conclusion that you need to speak in tongues just puzzles me.

Especially if you read the last few Scriptures of Chapter 10. We are talking here about the First Gentile, Christian convert. Why do they think he needed to speak in tongues but they don't.? This was an example to us of the way God wanted to set up his church. What else do we have go by.

If you are not accepting this, then I personally don't believe you are saved. This is what happens to you when you receive the Holy Spirit. Yes, it is for today. Millions of us are living proof, in all denominations. It is just not in the Pentecostal circles that have this experience. There aer Baptacostals too. : )
i am a true beleiver in Jesus and i have never spoke in tongues... do i need to take u to the book of Corithians???... u sound like an pentecostal or an apostolic... once u are a beleiver and invite Christ into ur life u recieve the gift of the holy spirit if u feed the spirit with the word of truth it can become empowered and u can speak in tongues but this is not the only gift.. if i can go to my father an ask for a gift why wouldnt i ask for the most important and perfect gift instead of second best.. the bible says the superior gift is the gift of prophecy b/c it builds and edify the church. what good the the gift of tongues if it profits nothing to save men.... please study a little more b4 judging!

@ Bill: the reason Paul said this in Acts is because this was the first time on the earth that man would recieve the spirit and JC himself told them b4 he left the earth that it would occur at an appointed time. this event was completely spiritual in nature. however after this occured the lord said he would send pour out his spirit upon man all men ..but note that all men do not get the spirit until they have invited Christ in their life .it is a gift from GOD and this is written, however the occurance in Acts had to come to pass first. this is the first example of when the spirit was poured on on a select few men this was divine in nature! your viewpoint is truely apostolic!

WOW!! looking back at all the other answers on this question reminds me why there is so much division in the church!Can u all really blame the atheist for poking fun! that's why its important to not focus on religion so much rather ur personal relationship with GOD, for u will get varying interpretations!
Repented, was baptized in water by immersion in Jesus' name and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost with the initial evidence of speaking in other tongues more than 35 years ago. Wouldn't trade my experience for anything in the world!

Edit for David: Peter said baptism was into the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38), and that baptism saves us the same way the waters of the flood saved Noah and his family from the sins of the world (1 Peter 3). You can't be saved if your sins aren't forgiven. Was Peter lying about the purpose of baptism? I doubt it!

Trey: If one receives the Spirit as soon as they believe, then why would Paul ask the disciples he encountered in Acts 19 if they had received it yet? He didn't know until after he asked that they were only disciples of John. Up until then, he thought they were believers in Jesus. Yet, he asked them if they had received the Holy Ghost since they had believed. Clearly, Paul didn't think it was automatic. All through Acts, receiving the Spirit was a definite experience, separate from believing, and there was always an evidence.
It's important to consider here that Mark 16 is not found in the original text of the book. This is why Bibles today begin the chapter with a notice that says something like, ';The original version did not have Mark 16.';

So, naturally, I regard it with some amount of suspect.
1 Corinthians 12 says not all believers are given the gift of tongues. And the Bible says that water baptism is not required for salvation.

The only way to be saved, is by believing in Jesus alone for salvation (John 6:47).
