What do you suppose the true meaning of Jesus' supposed appearance on Earth was ?

Many Christians are under the assumption that Jesus came to pay for our sins and to ultimately grant us admission into eternal paradise.

Do you suppose that the afterlife is not the real moral of the story but yet an example of how to treat one another to create a more harmonic society?

I believe the true moral of the story is that although it may seem as though good cannot prevail in this world, ultimately it does, and this is shown through the actions of Jesus Christ and his supposed resurrection and triumph over death.

What do you think? 10 pts to most elaborately thought out answer. What do you suppose the true meaning of Jesus' supposed appearance on Earth was ?
Fortunately for us, Jesus Himself answered that question. In His prayer in John chapter 17 He said, ';For you granted [me] authority over all people that [I] might give eternal life to all those you have given [me]... I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began. I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world...I have sent them into the world... I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory...';

After Jesus went back to heaven, His disciples were to go into all the world with the good news about Christ, and they were inspired by knowing that one day they would join Christ in His glory. If you read the entire chapter, you'll get the whole picture. Amazing stuff. So much more than just trying to live a good life! What do you suppose the true meaning of Jesus' supposed appearance on Earth was ?
It is true that Jesus came to pay for the sins of those who believe on Him, but there is much more meaning to it than that. The cross signifies that light always overcomes darkness, life overcomes death, and a perfect sacrifice is always compensated with a perfect blessing. It represents a mother going through labor to bring a child into the world. It represents a soldier dying for a just cause to bring freedom, and liberty to a country. It represents goodness overcoming evil.
No. If it is to only do good, there is still no hope. If it was to only do good, Christ would not have had to sacrifice himself. Getting into heaven is not based on works but faith.

Christ did not die for the good of this world, but to pay the price of sin. Without that price being paid, all the good works would be fruitless.
I think that the reason Jesus came to earth was to die for our sins, but just as important I think he was here to show us how to be good people, you know a role model for how we should behave, to put other people above our own needs even if they don't deserve it. It's easy to do good things for your own family, but I think what makes you an awesome person is when you can do good things for people that you aren't related to, or people that you don't like.
John 6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

This is the purpose of Christ coming to the world.

Eternal life.

Good is through the atonement and through the righteousness of Jesus Christ man can be made new.
The truth cannot be covered,,Jesus came to pay the sin

debt of the one,s who will come with him,,and to

anyone that will believe, also as you said to show that

there is good in many thing,s that are bad,but still the good

will stand above the bad, but the most loving answer is that

Jesus loved us enough to die so we might live,
The virtual appearance of Jesus on this Earth was needed so Saint Paul could create a new religion away from Judaism!
Because sin entered the world someone had to pay the price. Thank you, Jesus. Thank you, God~
He was here to save us and i think it would be great if he could come again to help us understand whats real important coz loks like we r lost
The true meaning is that Jesus was born, lived and died just like everyone else has or will.
its simple. not elaborate...He was here to preach good news and die for our sins..
The answer depends on one's convictions.

Christians will not agree with you; there is something unique about Jesus which has never been replicated by a human being.

There's a strain of thought in current theosophical circles which says the great human prophets: Gautama, Zoroaster, Jesus, Mohammed, were different incarnations of the same spiritual truth.

The unfortunate problem with the question is that it categorizes Jesus into an artificial compartment: it relegates this person for whom untold thousands or millions have died, and trivializes the commitment of faith billions have made to live their lives in accordance with this one person.

Regarding the afterlife bit, I don't think ';heaven after you die'; was the entire message either; Jesus' language in the gospels about the reign of God already being present means that the heart of the message was to be lived and built now. Jesus' resurrection, to Christians, is the ratification of God's kingdom as Jesus lived it.

So your two alternatives actually converge on each other: Jesus preached the immanence of the reign of God, so much so that it is in our midst. He lived in such a way that demonstrated such immanence. His resurrection shows us what the ';afterlife'; in the reign of God looks like. Good prevails because of the reign of God.
I believe he came for several reasons. The most important to me was to have someone to emulate. There aren't many shining examples of people to emulate in the world today. I've learned a great deal from Jesus, the most important: ';Love your enemies,'; and, ';Love is the greatest of these.'; Those two scriptures turned my life around, and I am not a christian or belong to any religion, I just Love God. :)

I believe he came to show us what True Love is, forgiveness, kindness, longsuffering, self control, etc, fruits of the Spirit. He came to Teach mankind, and what an impressive job he did. :)

He also came to reassure everyone of eternity, that life continues once we leave this world. He also came to Teach heaven on earth, that the kingdom of heaven is within. He accomplished everything he had set out to accomplish while he was here.

Most of all, he came to show his Love for us. It did rub off on quite a few of us, successfully..... :)
Disagree

There is a life after this, scripturally. If you were to string a thread from wall to door, go to the middle and place a dot with a pen, the dot is this life, a wisp at best. But what you do here and the decisions you make are essential for your salvation. Having your agency you make good or bad decisions, bringing you closer or pulling you away from God.

When you leave this life you go to a transitional place called Paradise. There you are greeted by family and friends that have already died. There you rest from you labors and cares of this life. You are waiting for the resurrection and judgement.

If you get to heaven as revelations says, it is right here, where the earth is transformed into ';a sea of glass and fire';. Every thing good about here will be there. Every time I tell people what they will do that dis me so I will end here.
Many men and women have done greater things than Jesus supposedly did, and suffered more as well, Are they also saviors of man?
