The two fishes represented 1 earthly nourishment and 2 spiritual nourishment. Having taken both the people were satisfied. The bread was barley bread which is very healthy. The two fishes can also be seen to represent Yin and Yang balance in spirituality. Male/female, good/evil etc. My perception is not of a literal sense but of one which is symbolic.
Not unless the disciples were carrying around 2 whales for dinner in the desert, and were afraid of sharing because there wouldn't be enough. Those must have been 12 hungry men! Not to mention strong! I guess lugging around a whale would make you very hungry. But how did the people miss the fact that these very strong and hungry disciples were concealing two whales under their cloaks? Hmmm





15And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.








16But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.

First of all whales aren't fish they have live babies and they have mammary glands so they are mammals. Not only that but how could he have taken them out of a basket? That would have had to have been one large basket and he wouldn't have been able to break them in half.
Interesting thought, but I don't think so. I think it was supposed to show how miraculous he was. Kind of like how I can take 2 cups of rice, 1 breast of chicken, a can of corn and a bit of mushroom soup and feed 6 people.
If he did I would have protested! Whales are mammals! It is like eating another human being.

Just imagine how the world would be if instead of loaves he had potatoes and a deep fat fryer.
The question is valid as they could not have known that whales were not fish.
